Artist Tiffany Jones, funded in part by a 2015 Maryland State Arts Council Mini Grant, leads an art/healing project inviting community members to create Safe Love “shawls” dedicated to their own recovery or to loved ones affected by mental illness or addiction. Using materials provided, or fabrics and materials participants bring with them, participants will work on creating a Safe Love artwork (a kind of "prayer shawl") under the guidance of lead facilitators. All are encouraged to add words of comfort, love, and support, which then become physically part their Safe Love pieces: sewing, stitching, writing, participants working in pairs make prayer shawl-like pieces, embellished with meaningful words and imagery. The shawls will be shared immediately afterward during the opening reception for What Love Looks Like.
